The EXTERN Domain Decommission Project is a Technology Debt Mitigation initiative focused on retiring the EXTERN Active Directory domain as an enterprise authentication service. The project transitions all dependent applications to Alberta.ca accounts, establishing a single, modern identity platform for external access to government systems. The work requires close coordination with application teams and cybersecurity stakeholders to assess existing authentication integrations, define required changes, and guide systems through readiness, development, testing, and implementation. Once all applications are transitioned, remaining EXTERN user accounts and supporting infrastructure will be fully decommissioned, reducing legacy security risk and supporting the GOAs cybersecurity strategy. ...
